Hi, my name is Carrie and I make needle felted sculptures and miniature dioramas. I’ve always had a passion for art and gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the National Art School, Sydney. My background is in painting and portraiture, however, it was a move to the hinterland that set me on my current path.

Being a sucker for animals and now with a plentiful supply around me I found myself eagerly observing their comings and goings and delighting in their quirky personalities and rivalries. I soon began attributing narratives to their daily routines and let loose with whimsical stories and illustrations.

It was around this time (probably because I wouldn’t shut up about the animal antics), that a friend sent me a photo of a small needle felted fox. I had never heard of needle felting but something clicked and I knew this was the perfect medium for my stories.

It took a bit of practice but I’ve created a fair few characters over the years, a motley assortment of curious creatures, all with intriguing stories to tell. Many can be found in the Gently Spoken Friend gallery and the ongoing Bergamot, Earl of Grey mouse blog.

When I’m not creating animal-centric art, I enjoy making journals and stationery, watercolours, miniature dioramas and the odd bit of tinkering. My studio companions include a posse of mischievous mice, a handful of wild 'pet' birds and a very mild mannered cat with a predilection for nineteenth century literary classics.
